Prateek Yadav Death News Updates: Last rites of Prateek Yadav scheduled at Baikunth Dham in Lucknow

The last rites of Prateek Yadav, younger son of Mulayam Singh Yadav and husband of Aparna Yadav, will be performed at Baikunth Dham in Lucknow on Thursday afternoon. Political leaders, family members and supporters are expected to attend the funeral.

Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav arrived at the home of BJP leader and State Women's Commission Vice Chairperson Aparna Yadav following the demise of her husband, Prateek Yadav.

Prateek Yadav, half-brother of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and husband of BJP leader Aparna Yadav, died in Lucknow on Wednesday morning under what officials described as “mysterious circumstances.”

In a separate case filed in 2025, Prateek Yadav had accused a former business associate of extorting over Rs 4 crore and threatening to damage his reputation.

An FIR was registered at Gautampalli police station against three individuals for alleged financial fraud, criminal breach of trust, blackmail and intimidation.

According to the complaint, the two had set up a real estate firm, Monal Infratech Pvt Ltd, in 2015.Yadav stated that his health worsened during the Covid-19 period.

Born into one of Uttar Pradesh’s most influential political families, Prateek maintained distance from electoral politics. Educated at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, he focused on fitness and real estate businesses in Lucknow. He ran a gym called “The Fitness Planet” and was associated with multiple real estate ventures over the years.

Yet beyond business and political lineage, Prateek cultivated a very different public image on social media.

One of his pinned Instagram posts carried a simple but telling message: “May life treat you the way you treat animals.” Another deeply personal post was dedicated to his pet dog Dulari, whom he described as his “eldest beti”. In the emotional tribute, he wrote that Dulari taught him “the universal language of beings” and inspired all the animal welfare work he later undertook.

DMK chief MK Stalin on Wednesday condoled the demise of Prateek Yadav, the stepbrother of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and extended support to Akhilesh Yadav and family in this moment of grief.

Stalin wished for strength and assured them that he would always be with Akhilesh Yadav and his family during difficult times, while referring to Akhilesh Yadav as "beloved brother".

"Deeply saddened by the passing of Thiru. Prateek Yadav, brother of Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav. In moments of such profound grief and pain, my thoughts are with beloved brother Thiru. Akhilesh Yadav and the entire bereaved family. May they find the strength to bear this irreparable loss," he said.

The BJP and the Samajwadi Party on Wednesday cancelled their political programmes in Uttar Pradesh following the sudden death of Prateek Yadav, younger son of late SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and stepbrother of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.

Prateek Yadav, 38, fell ill and was taken to the Civil Hospital in Lucknow in the early hours of Wednesday, where doctors declared him dead.

The BJP said district-level protests planned by women workers across the state on Wednesday have been postponed following Prateek Yadav's demise.

According to a statement issued by the party, Uttar Pradesh BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary directed that the programmes be deferred in view of the untimely death of Prateek Yadav, husband of BJP leader and Uttar Pradesh State Women Commission vice-chairperson Aparna Yadav.

The Samajwadi Party has also cancelled its scheduled political engagements for the day.

Leaders across party lines on Wednesday offered their condolences on the death of Prateek Yadav, younger son of late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and a stepbrother of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, who died under mysterious circumstances at 38.

Prateek was taken to the Civil Hospital in Lucknow in the early hours of Wednesday but was declared dead there, sources said.

SP leader and Prateek's uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav described the death as "extremely sad" and prayed for peace to the departed soul.

Party MP from Azamgarh Dharmendra Yadav offered his condolences.

SP MP from Ayodhya Awadhesh Prasad said he was at first unable to believe the news when he heard about it in the morning, and termed the death "extremely painful and tragic."

Among BJP leaders, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya gave his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength for them to bear the loss.

Another deputy chief minister, Brajesh Pathak, termed the news "extremely saddening" and prayed for peace to the departed soul.

Uttar Pradesh BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary expressed solidarity with the grieving family.

Prateek's death comes months after he publicly accused his wife Aparna Yadav of damaging his relationship with his family and said he planned to seek a divorce, earlier this year. In a lengthy post shared on his verified Instagram account, Prateek Yadav described Aparna as a “family destroyer” and accused her of being self-centred and focused on gaining fame and influence.

However, days after publicly declaring his intention to divorce his wife, Prateek, shared a new Instagram post carrying a contrasting message: "All is good."

Originally known as Aparna Bisht, she married Prateek Yadav in 2011 and the couple has a daughter. She is fondly called as the 'chhoti bahu' of the Yadav family.

Aparna made her political debut in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections when she contested from the Lucknow Cantt seat on a Samajwadi Party ticket. During the campaign, Akhilesh Yadav was seen canvassing for her. However, she lost the election to BJP candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who secured nearly 63,000 votes.

A police team led by DCP Central Vikrant Vir on Wednesday visited the Lucknow residence of BJP leader Aparna Yadav after the sudden death of her husband Prateek Yadav.

Officials said investigators are trying to reconstruct the sequence of events before Prateek was found unconscious inside the house.

The 38-year-old was rushed to a nearby hospital by family members and others present at the residence, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police have taken possession of Prateek Yadav’s mobile phone as part of the inquiry and are expected to examine his recent communication records and digital activity.

Police officials said the exact cause of death is yet to be established and clarity will emerge only after the postmortem examination and forensic analysis are completed. Sources said officials are also examining the circumstances in which he was discovered unconscious at the residence early Wednesday morning.

Police sources said investigators are likely to record statements from family members, household staff and others who were present inside the residence at the time of the incident.

Authorities are expected to piece together Prateek Yadav’s movements and interactions in the hours before his death. Officials have maintained that all angles are being examined as part of standard procedure while awaiting medical findings.

Though he belonged to one of Uttar Pradesh’s most influential political families, Prateek Yadav largely remained away from electoral politics. The son of late Mulayam Singh Yadav and his second wife Sadhna Gupta, Prateek was known for his interest in fitness and business ventures in Lucknow, including operating a popular gym.

He was also active on social media, where he frequently posted about fitness, adventure sports and animal welfare. One of his pinned Instagram posts reflected his deep attachment to animals and his pet dog, Dulari.

Prateek Yadav had recently made headlines after an Instagram post surfaced earlier this year in which he allegedly spoke about seeking a divorce from Aparna Yadav and referred to mental health struggles. The claims were later disputed by Aparna Yadav’s family, who alleged that the social media account had been hacked. Separately, Prateek had also filed a police complaint accusing a former business associate of financial fraud, extortion and criminal intimidation involving more than Rs 4 crore.

The sudden death of Prateek Yadav has triggered shock and discussion across political circles in Uttar Pradesh due to his close links with both the Samajwadi Party and the BJP through family ties.

He was the stepbrother of Akhilesh Yadav and husband of BJP leader Aparna Yadav, who joined the BJP in 2022 after previously contesting elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket. Further details in the case are expected once the postmortem report is released.
