Summer haircare in India is an official battle against humidity, UV exposure, scalp irritation, sweat, and, of course, sudden hair fall. So, after using hundreds of manufactured products on the market, the internet is currently obsessed with natural remedies, and two desi beauty ingredients have become popular again: rice water and coconut water. But the real question arises as to which of the two works better for summer hair growth. Let’s see.

Rice water is the starchy liquid left after soaking or boiling the rice. It has been used for centuries in East and South Asian beauty rituals to attain smoother and shinier-looking locks. Rich in amino acids, inositol, vitamins B & E, antioxidants, and magnesium, it helps in strengthening the hair shaft and reducing breakage as well. From strengthening the hair locks to repairing damaged ends, it also controls frizz and soothes scalp irritation.

Despite its viral use, there is limited evidence that it directly boosts hair growth. If you’re struggling with dry scalp, protein-sensitive hair, curly hair prone to brittleness, and low-porosity locks, then this remedy is not an ideal solution for you. But, because of the rich amino acids, it improves the elasticity of your hair; reduces breakage caused by heat and humidity; and directly helps in sustainability, whereas indirectly it helps in hair growth.

Coconut water is the clear liquid inside the tender coconuts, which is packed with minerals, amino acids, electrolytes, and hydration-friendly nutrients. Unlike the oils, the liquid feels cool on the scalp and is also lightweight. It deeply hydrates and nourishes the scalp, calms the irritation on the scalp, improves the overall balance, and indirectly supports healthier hair growth.

If you have weak hair follicles, chemically damaged locks, and an extremely dry scalp, and you’re craving volume and strength, then rice water is an ideal solution for you. On the other hand, if you’re experiencing a sweaty and itchy scalp, struggling with frizz and depression, and have low-porosity and dry locks, then coconut oil is your ultimate saviour.

For most Indian hair types in hot summers, hydration is what matters the most, even more than protein overload, which is precisely why coconut water quietly becomes the underrated summer haircare hero. From consumption to application, coconut water has to be included in your diet and haircare plan. So, are you ready to change the hair script this year?
