Ferozepur: The Ferozepur police have arrested four persons, including a woman and her 15-year-old son, and seized 7.8kg heroin and three mobile phones from them.
Ferozepur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said the action was carried out following a tip-off operation led by the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) wing in Zira, which conducted a raid near the Feroze Shah bus stand and arrested Akashdeep alias Akash of Betu Kadim and Robin Kumar of Panje Ke Uttar, who were allegedly involved in heroin trafficking and were waiting for customers.
The police seized 1.5kg heroin along with two mobile phones from them. A case against them was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Ghall Khurd police station.
During interrogation, accused Robin disclosed that more heroin was kept at his residence and linked one woman and her juvenile son with the smuggling racket. Subsequent raids led to the recovery of an additional 6.3kg of heroin and another mobile phone.
Sidhu said
the mother-son duo, along with the other accused, were actively involved in heroin trafficking for the past several months and were in contact with Pakistan-based smuggler Shah Pathan, who allegedly used to pass on instructions regarding the receipt and delivery of consignments.
The official said forensic examination of the seized mobile phones was underway and further disclosures were expected.
