Vijayawada: A 60-year-old farmer died in a fire accident in Guravayapalem village near Narasaraopet after he got trapped in a sudden blaze while burning corn crop residue in his field.
The victim, V Rama Rao, a resident of the village, recently harvested his maize crop and went to the field to burn the leftover agricultural waste, locals said.
According to locals, the flames spread uncontrollably within seconds due to strong winds and dry weather conditions. The fire quickly engulfed the area, leaving Rama Rao with little time to escape.
Villagers, who noticed the smoke, rushed to the spot, but by the time they arrived, he suffered severe burns and died. The incident plunged Guravayapalem into grief, with family members and fellow farmers mourning the loss. Police and revenue officials have begun an inquiry.
Locals said the accident underscores the dangers of burning dry agricultural residue during peak summer, especially under windy conditions.
