Vijayawada: In a move aimed at strengthening sanitation and waste management operations in the city, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Thursday launched five new JCB backhoe loader vehicles at the Ajit Singh Nagar Garbage Transfer Station. The corporation procured the five 74 HP JCB vehicles for Rs 2.22 crore to speed up sanitation, drainage and solid waste management works across the city.
Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), along with Vijayawada Central MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and civic body officials, inaugurated the new vehicles at the Ajit Singh Nagar Garbage Transfer Station on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Kesineni Sivanath said the addition of the vehicles would help improve garbage clearance and drainage maintenance in the Central constituency. He stated that the area earlier suffered from poor sanitation and drainage issues, but several development works were now changing the face of the locality.
The Central MLA said the city has been witnessing visible improvements in sanitation under the “Swachh Andhra” initiative being implemented by the state govt. He said the newly inducted vehicles would strengthen civic services and help transform waste management systems in the city. The MLA also appreciated MP Kesineni Sivanath for securing funds and support for urban development projects.
VMC in-charge chief engineer P Satya Kumari said the new machinery would be deployed for garbage lifting, drainage desilting and other sanitation-related works in different parts of Vijayawada.
