Tirupati: The state endowments dept has embarked on a mission to give a facelift to over 40 ancient temples across five districts at a cost of ₹51 crore ahead of the 2027 Godavari Pushkarams.
With a pilgrim footfall of close to 10 crore expected for the Godavari Pushkarams, scheduled to be held from June 26 to July 7, the govt has already constituted a 12-member Group of Ministers (GoM) to oversee the necessary arrangements to be made for the mega event.
Endowments minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, who is also the chairmam of Godavari Pushkarams GoM, said the best of arrangements are being made under the leadership of chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu for the event, which is also known as 'Kumbh Mela of the South’.
“One of the first steps undertaken by the endowments dept is to give a facelift to over 40 ancient temples across five districts abutting the sacred Godavari river. The govt has allocated ₹51 crore to execute the development works,” the minister said, adding that the endowments dept has taken up renovation works of 15 temples at Amalapuram, P Gangavaram, Kothapeta, Mummidivaram, and Razole in Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district at a cost of ₹20.4 crore.
Renovation of five ancient temples have also been taken up at a cost of ₹6 crore at Polavaram and Eluru districts, 18 other temples in Kovuru, Mandapeta, Nidadavolu, and Rajahmundry in East Godavari district at a cost of ₹23.6 crore, and two temples at Achanta in West Godavari district at a cost of ₹1.7 crore.
