Ramnagar assembly election results: BJP's Chandra Sekhar Mondal defeats sitting TMC MLA Akhil Giri by over 26,000 votes

NEW DELHI: BJP won the Ramnagar assembly seat in Purba Medinipur district, with its candidate Chandra Sekhar Mondal defeating sitting Trinamool MLA, Akhil Giri.The counting of votes for the West Bengal assembly elections was held on Monday. Polling was conducted in two phases - April 23 and 29 - with an unprecedented turnout of over 90% in both phases.According to the Election Commission, Mondal won 130,381 votes, while Giri, who was seeking a fourth consecutive term, receiving 104,349 votes.Giri won the 2021 election with 112,622 votes (51%), defeating the BJP’s Swadesh Ranjan Nayak’s 100,105 votes (45%), by a margin of 12,517 votes. Key issues were irrigation and flood control for paddy and betel leaf farming across Ramnagar‑I and Ramnagar‑II blocks, road connectivity to Contai markets, and drinking water supply. Demand for health centres, schools and local employment amid rural‑urban expansion is also prominent. Ramnagar falls under Kanthi Lok Sabha constituency, won by BJP’s Soumendu Adhikari in 2024 by 47,764 votes.
