Himanta Biswa Sarma won the Jalukbari constituency. In the 2026 assembly elections, the BJP candidate emerged victorious against Congress's Bidisha Neog by a margin of 89434 votes.
Himanta dominated 2021 elections with 130,762 votes (73.52per cent share) and a massive 92,677-vote margin over INC's Romen Chandra Borthakur (38,085 votes). He switched from INC, where he won convincingly in 2011.
Exit polls had suggested a decisive edge for the incumbent government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma, with most agencies predicting that the Bharatiya Janata Party is on course to win a third straight term in Assam.
Voting for all 126 constituencies took place on April 9, with turnout exceeding 85%—among the highest seen in recent years.
Importantly, the strong voter participation was evident not only in rural regions but also in urban areas, indicating widespread and energetic engagement from voters across the state.
