He defeated Sukriti Kumar Sarkar of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who secured 63,273 votes, by a margin of 40,061 votes.Baduria is a predominantly rural, general category constituency in North 24 Parganas, located close to the Bangladesh border with a significant Muslim population.
