Tamil Nadu shocker: Lover attacks woman, crushes her head with stone over marriage delay
TRICHY: KK Nagar police in Trichy city have arrested one 22-year-old man for attempting to murder a woman at the Racecourse road walking track near the district sports complex in Khajamalai. The accused was in a relationship with the 22-year-old victim and had been pressurizing the woman with a marriage proposal, police said that he assaulted the victim for delaying the marriage proposal. The victim was identified as Amala Verginia, a native of Mudukulathur in Ramanathapuram district. She has been pursuing an MBA under a distance education programme. Amala for the past two years has been in a relationship with the accused Viyakula Naveen, a native of Salai village in Sivaganga district. Police said that Naveen is working in a real estate firm in Thillai Nagar, Trichy city. Meanwhile, Naveen has persistently asked Amala to marry him, but the victim delayed the proposal since her parents did not agree with the marriage proposal. Amala has also informed Naveen about her parent’s objection. Meanwhile, on Sunday evening, the duo met at Racecourse road walking track abutting the Khajamalai district sports complex.
An argument broke out between the two, Naveen had verbally abused Amala and strangled her neck using her shawl. He also assaulted her with a stone. Amala sustained severe head injuries and was lying on the Racecourse road walking track, a vicinity that hosts official quarters of senior police officers. The assault was captured by onlookers in mobile phones. The video went viral on social media platforms with netizens questioning women safety. On information, KK Nagar police registered a case under sections BNS 109 (attempt to murder), 296 (b) (abusing in obscene language), and section 4 of Woman Harassment Act. While Naveen was remanded under judicial custody, the victim Amala has been admitted to the govt medical college hospital in Trichy.
