Why did Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit the Netherlands’ iconic Afsluitdijk dam during his Europe tour? The visit was far more than a diplomatic photo-op. The massive Dutch engineering project has now become directly relevant to India’s long-term plans for water security, flood control and climate resilience. From protecting an entire country from rising sea levels to managing freshwater storage and renewable energy, the Afsluitdijk is considered one of the world’s greatest water engineering marvels. Indian officials say the Dutch model could offer crucial lessons for Gujarat’s ambitious Kalpasar Project — a mega dam and freshwater reservoir proposed across the Gulf of Khambhat. VD Satheesan Announces Kerala Cabinet Ahead Of Oath, IUML To Get 5 Posts

Kerala chief minister-designate V D Satheesan announced the list of ministers who will be sworn in as part of his new cabinet during Monday’s oath-taking ceremony. Senior Congress leaders Ramesh Chennithala, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sunny Joseph and K Muraleedharan are among the prominent names included in the ministry. Satheesan also named Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan as the Speaker of the Kerala Assembly, while Shanimol Usman will serve as Deputy Speaker. The Congress-led alliance’s key ally, the Indian Union Muslim League, has finalised five leaders for ministerial positions in the new government. The announcement comes ahead of the formal swearing-in ceremony following the alliance’s victory in the Kerala assembly elections, with the new cabinet set to officially assume office on Monday.
