NMC Cleans Up Naik Talao, Plugs 38 Sewage Points
Nagpur: The long-polluted Naik Talao in central Nagpur has undergone a major transformation after Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) stopped sewage discharge from 38 different points flowing into the lake. Mayor Neeta Thakre expressed satisfaction over the lake's revival during an inspection on Thursday.The mayor visited Naik Talao and Lendi Talao to review ongoing development and beautification works. Until a few months ago, Naik Talao was plagued by water hyacinth, foul smell, and unhygienic conditions. Civic officials said the lake has now become pollution-free following a special cleanliness drive undertaken by the NMC. During the visit, the mayor directed officials to develop a walking track around the lake for citizens and install protective grills along the retaining wall. At Lendi Talao, Thakre expressed displeasure over encroachments within and around lake premises. Officials were instructed to remove encroachments at earliest. Standing Committee chairperson Shivani Dani-Wakhre also directed administration to issue notices.
