Kolkata: The Kolkata Traffic Police continued their crackdown on two-wheeler riders not wearing helmets for the fourth consecutive day, even as instructions were passed that cops "record everything" while carrying out the prosecutions. Joint CP (traffic) Rupesh Kumar said 221 cases of helmetless riding were reported till 4 pm on Thursday. By 8 pm, there were 775 cases in total.The cops said they are asking cops carrying out the raids to don body cameras and keep the recordings secure on the servers. "There is a tendency of bikers challenging the police action in such cases. We will keep the footage ready for proof in court. The videography of the areas is also being carried out."The police said Sealdah Traffic Guard reported 36 cases of riding without helmet, Tollygunge reported 15 cases, East Guard 29 cases and Bhowanipore Guard 20 cases. Both Sealdah and East Guard have been identified as focus zones even by the special raid teams of the traffic department along with the Headquarters Traffic Guard and the Jorabagan Traffic Guard. Between Monday and Wednesday, 3,302 two-wheeler riders were hauled up by cops for not wearing helmets.Cops said several indulged in illegal parking on the Maidan. Many of these were repeat offenders.
