Cuttack: Amid the continuing buzz over former IAS officer Sujata Karthikeyan Pandian possibly joining the
BJD and being given a key organisational role, former party MLA Pravat Biswal on Friday said BJD should send her to the Rajya Sabha.
Speaking to media, Biswal said Suajata Karthikeyan’s long administrative career and familiarity with Odisha’s grassroots governance structure would strengthen BJD at a crucial time. “She has worked closely with people across districts and understands governance at every level,” Biswal said.
Speculation around Sujata Karthikeyan ’s political entry has intensified in recent weeks, with BJD members viewing her as a potential asset ahead of future electoral battles.
While there has been no official confirmation from the party or from Sujata herself, leaders privately admit that conversations within the organisation are ongoing.
However, some leaders also cautioned that any decision would have to be carefully calibrated to balance seniority and expectations within the party. Biswal said BJD has traditionally encouraged professionals and administrators to enter public life. “Ultimately, the decision rests with the party leadership,” he added.
“V K Pandian and his team had a great contribution in the party’s 2019 win. The party was defeated in 2024 due to the anti-incumbency factor. The Pandian couple has worked for BJD and party should reward them accordingly,” said Biswal.
