Woman killed, two injured as car crashes into pole in Trichy

Trichy: A 63-year-old woman was killed and her grandson and son were injured as the car in which they were travelling collided with a roadside iron post in Ponmalai in Trichy on Sunday night. Police identified the deceased as S Maithili, from Annamalai Street in M K Kottai. On Sunday, Maithili, her grandson S Arura, 5, and her son S Saravanan, 44, were travelling in a car from Manapparai to their home. Around 11pm, Saravanan lost control of the car near the West Gate area and it rammed into a roadside iron pole. Maithili suffered head injuries, while Arura sustained injuries to his stomach and Saravanan in his chest. All three were rushed to Trichy MGMGH, where doctors declared Maithili dead on arrival. Traffic police have registered a case against Saravanan. Further investigations are underway.
