West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari intensified his remarks on the law and order situation in West Bengal after violence during a protest in Kolkata left 10 police personnel and three CAPF members injured on Sunday. He said around 40 arrests had been made so far and stressed that strict action would be taken against those involved. Drawing a comparison with Kashmir, Adhikari said incidents such as stone pelting had declined there and asserted that similar disorder must end in Bengal as well. He claimed people had earlier believed no action would be taken against them, but said the police would now function strictly under the law and the BNSS framework. He also said Kolkata Police would be strengthened and modernised with better infrastructure and logistical support.
