Kochi: Police investigating the racket involved in forging documents to facilitate illegal organ trade arrested one more person connected to the network.
The arrested person was identified as Debin Joseph (38) of Marayoor. He is suspected to have identified financially vulnerable people for illegal organ transplants.
He was arrested by a
special investigation team (SIT) of Kochi city police from Punnamada around 5am.
Meanwhile, the custodial interrogation of the prime accused Mohammed Najeeb, 53, continued on Thursday.
Sources said investigators traced Joseph's involvement after his name surfaced during the verification of documents seized from Najeeb.
Najeeb was arrested by a team of the Ernakulam rural police. He is currently in custody as well. Meanwhile, city police are probing the racket after a case connected to it was registered at Ambalamedu police station.
Officials said that the two wings of state police are effectively coordinating the probe.
