Palakkad: Tension prevailed in front of head post office on Wednesday after a protest march organised by SFI alleging irregularities in NEET examination turned violent. Police used water cannons to disperse the protesters after activists allegedly broke barricades and attempted to enter the post office premises.
The confrontation continued for nearly an hour, prompting heavy police deployment in the area.
The march was inaugurated by SFI state secretariat member Vipin S Pirayiri, who criticised the police during his speech.
Referring to the clashes that took place at CPM office in Palakkad on the day of the assembly election results, Vipin alleged that the police had acted in a biased manner.
Addressing the gathering, he said, "SFI has collected details of the policemen who assaulted our leaders and activists. If we start retaliating, there will be no limit to our aggression." He further warned that the organisation had identified the houses of the police officers involved and claimed that SFI had never failed to respond to attacks against its workers.
