3.5 lakh MP board students opt for second chance exams starting May 7
Indore: Over 3.43 lakh students across Madhya Pradesh are set to appear for the second attempt examinations conducted by Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) from May 7.
A total of 622 examination centres have been established across the state for the exams.
Once associated largely with failed candidates, the examination is now increasingly being used by students seeking to improve their scores and overall percentage though the second attempt.
“More than 3.43 lakh students across the state will appear in the second examination beginning May 7. The system is giving students another academic opportunity, whether to clear subjects or improve performance without losing an academic year,” MPBSE PRO, Bhupesh Gupta said.
In Indore alone, 11,881 students from class 10 and 13,622 students from class 12 will appear for the examination at 39 designated centres across the district. Officials said nearly 2,000 of these students had already passed the main board examination but opted to reappear to improve their marks.
The second examination is being conducted for students who failed in February-March board examination as well as those dissatisfied with their scores declared on April 15. The result of the second attempt examination is expected by the last week of June so that college admission schedules are not affected.
Interestingly, board data has also revealed that nearly 4.89 lakh students had failed in the main examination this year, but only 3.43 lakh applied for the second attempt. This means around 1.5 lakh students chose not to appear. Education department officials said several students submitted written declarations stating they would rather prepare properly and reappear for the full examination next year instead of rushing through the second attempt.
Authorities said that strict measures similar to the main board examinations would remain in place. Question papers will be prepared by the board and stored securely at local police stations before being distributed on the day of the examination. Flying squads will conduct surprise inspections to prevent malpractice and action may also be taken against centre superintendents in cases of mass copying. CCTV surveillance and videography arrangements have also been made at several centres.
Indore district education officer Shanta Swami Bhargav said that all arrangements for the examination had been completed and over 25,000 students would appear across centres in the district.
