Leopard cub found dead in Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary; investigation underway
Indore: A leopard cub was found dead on Thursday within Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary area in Mandsaur district, prompting forest department to launch an investigation.Mandsaur divisional forest officer (DFO) Sanjay Raikhere told TOI that the leopard was found near Neemuch-Jhalawar main road, in forest compartment number 1011 of the East Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary. On receiving the information, forest officials secured the area and deployed a dog squad to conduct a thorough search at the site.A postmortem examination was conducted by wildlife veterinarians Dr Akash Valmik and Dr Sumit Kumar Patel. The cub was estimated to be 6 to 8 months old.“All body parts were found intact, ruling out poaching or organ harvesting. Samples have been sent for forensic analysis to determine the exact cause of death,” the DFO said.The forest department has registered a wildlife offence case.
