2 traffic cops suspended, TI shifted after row with BJP workers
Indore: A confrontation between local BJP workers and traffic police personnel at Mhow Naka Square on Friday afternoon led to suspension of two police personnel and removal of an inspector. The dispute began when Virendra Shedge, BJP in-charge for assembly constituency 4, was reportedly stopped during a helmet-checking drive led by Traffic TI Radha Yadav and her team.Shedge alleged that a police official stepped in front of his moving motorcycle and physically assaulted him. “I was stopped at the signal and slapped,” Shedge said, demanding legal action against the officials involved.Traffic officials said that Shedge was stopped because he was riding a bike while talking on a mobile phone. Senior police officials, however, said that preliminary reviews of CCTV footage did not show Shedge using phone at the time.Following the altercation, a large number of BJP workers gathered at Mhow Naka and staged a road blockade. The protesters demanded immediate suspension of the involved personnel. As the protest continued, constable Shekhar and subedar Lakshmi were suspended and TI Yadav was removed from her post and shifted to police headquarters. Yadav said that CCTV footage would prove that she was not present when the argument began.ACP Shivendu Joshi said that a detailed investigation was underway. “We are thoroughly examining all available CCTV and video footage. Legal steps will be taken based on the evidence found,” he said.
