Agartala: Tripura’s royal scion, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, has called upon the northeast diaspora in New Delhi to join a protest at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday. The demonstration aims to pressure the government into upholding constitutional rights for the region's indigenous populations.
Pradyot, founder of TIPRA Motha and a key ally of the BJP in Tripura, insists the protest is apolitical, focusing solely on the collective strength of the northeast in advocating for indigenous rights and development. The protest will spotlight the urgent need to address illegal migration and expedite the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, a pivotal agreement with the MHA that remains stalled.
Highlighting the determination of Tripura's youth, Pradyot praised David Murasing's journey from Agartala to Delhi to support the cause. “We will carry no political banners, only the Indian flag,” Pradyot declared, urging the govt to prioritize the future of Tripura’s indigenous people.
He called for unity across political lines, emphasizing solidarity over partisanship. “This is a moment for Tiprasa unity. If we care about our children's future, we must act now,” he stated, expressing his readiness to “fight, face imprisonment, or even sacrifice his life” for the cause.
Pradyot warned of the growing threat posed by immigration from Bangladesh, which has intensified competition for Tripura's limited land and resources. The protest seeks to address these pressing issues and demand clarity on the delays in implementing the Tiprasa Accord.
