Dibrugarh: City-wide anti-rabies vaccination campaign continued on Monday, with Animal Welfare People (AWP) NGO successfully immunising over 100 street dogs in the Amolapatty and Santipara areas of Dibrugarh city.
The drive, conducted in collaboration with the veterinary department and the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC), is part of an ongoing city-wide effort to curb the spread of rabies and ensure better health for the stray animal population.
According to DMC officials, approximately 400 stray dogs have been vaccinated since the drive began, with plans to extend coverage to every corner of Dibrugarh city over the coming days.
The vaccination drive has already covered multiple strategic locations across the city, including Seujpur, Naliapool, Running Shed Gate, and BNP School Road. The comprehensive coverage in the Santipara area encompassed Banshbari, KP Road, Shubhashpalli, Belpatti, Tarun Samiti lane, Bani Sadan Road, Baruah Pathar, and the vending zone areas. Monday’s operations focused on the Amolapatty Rail Gate area, while Chiring Chapori received partial coverage.
“The support from residents has been encouraging. Many people came forward to help our teams locate and safely handle the dogs, which is vital for the success of such an operation. This is a true community effort,” a volunteer from the NGO said.
The Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation’s participation has been key to streamlining the logistics of the large-scale drive.
Deputy mayor Ujjal Phukon said, “Our collaboration with AWP and the veterinary department represents a model approach to addressing public health concerns, while caring for street animals. Regular vaccination of stray dogs is crucial for maintaining public health standards and reducing the risk of rabies transmission. We are committed to supporting this initiative until the entire city is covered.”
DMC confirmed that the vaccination campaign will continue systematically until complete city-wide coverage is achieved. The civic body has appealed to residents to cooperate with vaccination teams and report areas with high stray dog populations to ensure comprehensive coverage.
