24 missing children from Tripura rescued in Arunachal’s Siang
Agartala: Twenty-four children, who had gone missing from Tripura’s tea gardens, were rescued in Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang district by police forces of both states. The move comes a day after the Tripura govt’s request for assistance from Arunachal Pradesh.Unakoti superintendent of police Sudhambika R said on Thursday that coordinated effort ensured the safe return of the minors. The incident came to light when, just a day earlier, a woman filed a police complaint, reporting the disappearance of 30 children from Unakoti, the SP said. The police registered an FIR and launched an immediate investigation.Law enforcement officials traced the missing children to Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang district.Upon confirming their location, the Unakoti district police reached out to their Arunachal Pradesh counterparts. They informed both the superintendent of police and the officer-in-charge of the police station in Siang district about the findings. In response to this information, Arunachal Pradesh Police undertook a rescue mission, which resulted in the successful recovery of 24 missing children.Sudhambika further said a dedicated team from Tripura Police is scheduled to depart on Friday to facilitate their return. She emphasised that an investigation is going on to uncover the circumstances under which these children were taken to Arunachal Pradesh and determine if any foul play or other unlawful activity was involved. This case follows a recent appeal by Tripura labour minister Tinku Roy, who had addressed a formal letter to Nyato Dukam, Arunachal Pradesh’s minister for labour and employment.
