Man dies as car jumps divider & drags him for 50m; 8yo daughter, friend injured

Pilibhit: A speeding car lost control, crashed through a highway divider and plowed into a roadside juice stall on Saturday night, leaving one man dead and two others injured. The vehicle dragged one of the victims for about 50 m before coming to a halt, said an eyewitness.The horrifying accident occurred around 9:30 pm near Amaria tehsil headquarters in Pilibhit district. The deceased, 38-year-old Mudit Gupta, a local water purifier plant owner, was standing at the juice corner, along with his eight-year-old daughter Nitya Gupta and a friend, Ashish Gupta (35). Suddenly, an uncontrolled sedan broke through the median from the opposite side of the highway, barrelling straight into the trio.The victims were rushed to a private hospital in Pilibhit city. Due to the critical nature of his injuries, Mudit Gupta was later referred to an advanced medical facility in Bareilly around 1 am on Sunday. He succumbed to his injuries en route and was declared dead on arrival by doctors in Bareilly.Nitya Gupta and Ashish Gupta sustained multiple injuries and are under medical care. Ashish Gupta is a cooking gas stove dealerAngered by the incident, bystanders blocked the vehicle and apprehended the driver before he could flee the scene.
The crowd subsequently handed him over to the arriving police forces.Amaria SHO Amit Singh confirmed that the offending vehicle has been impounded. “We are waiting for a formal written complaint from the victim’s family to lodge an FIR and initiate further legal proceedings,” Singh said.The body of the deceased has been sent for postmortem.
