Bareilly: A 26-year-old mathematics lecturer at a govt inter college was found dead in his rented accommodation in Bareilly’s Izzatnagar area on Friday, with a four-page note recovered from the room allegedly blaming his girlfriend and her brothers for prolonged harassment.
The lecturer, a native of Suaraj village under
Gorakhpur’s Gola police station limits, was staying in a rented room in Dhaurera Mafi village under Izzatnagar police station area.
Police said the matter came to light after his father was unable to contact him on phone and alerted the landlord. When the room was opened, the lecturer was found hanging, following which police and forensic teams reached the spot and began an investigation.
In the purported note, the lecturer alleged that his girlfriend and her brothers had demanded money and threatened to implicate him in false criminal cases. Investigators said his phone contained several calls and messages exchanged with the woman.
A police officer said, “We are examining call detail records, messages and the suicide note. Action will be taken based on the facts that emerge during the investigation.”
The postmortem examination was conducted the same night and the body was later handed over to the family. Police said preliminary findings indicated that he had been under prolonged mental distress.
SSP Anurag Arya told TOI, “We are thoroughly probing the case.”
