After PM Modi’s call, Pilibhit DM asks officials to walk to offices
Pilibhit: Following PM Narendra Modi’s call to save fuel, Pilibhit district magistrate Gyanendra Singh on Thursday discontinued using his police escort vehicle and directed officials living in the officers’ colony near the collectorate campus to walk to their offices. The move also comes after UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to reduce the number of vehicles in official fleets and remove escort vehicles.Singh asked govt officials to adopt a vehicle-pooling system for attending Tehsil Diwas camps, review meetings and other official programmes. He said virtual meetings among officials would be encouraged to reduce the movement of govt vehicles. The DM also appealed to residents to use private vehicles only when necessary and prefer e-rickshaws for travelling to markets to help reduce diesel and petrol consumption. He urged youngsters to use bicycles for short distances instead of exercising on gym cycles at gyms or at home. “Such small efforts will collectively bring about a big change in conserving fuel during the current global crisis,” Singh said.
