NEW DELHI: TVK chief C Joseph Vijay on Sunday was sworn in as Tamil Nadu chief minister after the May 4 verdict declared his party as the single largest in the assembly. His oath-taking came after days of struggle in proving a majority to governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.He took oath at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.The governor directed actor-politician Vijay to seek the vote of confidence in the assembly on or before May 13.

Vijay's TVK stormed the elections in Tamil Nadu, dismantling the traditional forces of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, a 50-year-old dominance in state politics.Vijay has succeeded MK Stalin as the Tamil Nadu chief minister.Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and Indian Union Muslim League extended unconditional support to TVK on Saturday, helping Vijay reach the required majority mark of 120 in the 234-member assembly. Congress, CPI and CPM had already backed TVK, taking its tally from 107 to 116 by Friday night. With VCK and IUML joining in, the tally rose to 120.
