The Supreme Court took a stern view of Madhya Pradesh minister Kunwar Vijay Shah’s controversial remarks linking Colonel Sofiya Qureshi to “Operation Sindoor,” stating it was not inclined to condone his conduct. A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi observed that the statement appeared “most unfortunate” and showed a lack of repentance. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the court that the minister may have intended to praise Col Qureshi but ended up making a statement that was misinterpreted. The court noted that this was not an isolated incident and directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine other similar remarks made by the minister. It also asked the Madhya Pradesh government to decide on the SIT’s request for sanction to prosecute him.
