Mangaldai is a Scheduled Castes reserved assembly constituency in Assam's Darrang district, part of the Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency. It covers rural areas around Mangaldoi town, focusing on agrarian communities with significant SC voters.In Mangaldai, the BJP’s Nilima Devi won the assembly elections 2026 with a margin of 23,936 votes against Congress candidate Rijumoni Talukdar.BJP's Gurujyoti Das won in 2016 with 73,423 votes (41.31per cent) and a 22,045-vote margin over INC's Basanta Das (51,378 votes, 28.90 per cent). INC's Basanta Das triumphed in 2011 with 65,440 votes (45.36per cent) against AIUDF.The seat features high rural population density, with around 177,736 electors in 2016 (turnout 88.84per cent) and polling data showing competitive booths across villages like Barsatra and Rangamati.In 2023, Assam underwent a delimitation process that changed several constituency boundaries and names. Notably, the Mangaldoi Lok Sabha seat was renamed Darrang–Udalguri.
