Jorasanko, constituency number 165, is one of the most historically significant seats in Kolkata, home to the ancestral mansion of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. It falls in the Kolkata Uttar Lok Sabha constituency.
In 2026, TMC has nominated Vijay Upadhyay, while BJP fields Vijay Ojha.
In 2021, Vivek Gupta of the TMC won the seat, defeating BJP's Mina Devi Purohit by approximately 12,743 votes, with TMC polling around 53 per cent. It was a narrower margin than in many other Kolkata North seats, reflecting the constituency's more competitive nature. Gupta is not fielded again in 2026. In 2016, Smita Bakshi of the TMC won the seat, defeating BJP's Rahul Sinha in a closely fought contest, with the TMC holding on by a slim margin.
Jorasanko has an entirely urban electorate with a significant Hindi-speaking and Marwari business community, reflecting Kolkata's trading heritage. Its voter turnout is relatively low compared to other city constituencies, and it recorded just around 50 per cent turnout in 2021. The seat had a notable flip in the 2024 Lok Sabha polling, when the BJP out-polled the TMC here.
