DMK’s A Maharajan registered a win in the Andipatti constituency of Theni district, a seat of historical significance once represented by former chief ministers M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa. The 2026 election saw a contest among A Logirajan of the AIADMK, A Maharajan of the DMK, and M Mohammed Rukman of the TVK, with the DMK candidate emerging victorious.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, DMK’s A. Maharajan won with 93,541 votes, defeating AIADMK’s A. Logirajan by a margin of 8,538 votes. In the 2016 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s Thanga Tamil Selvan won with 1,03,129 votes, defeating DMK’s L. Mookiah by 30,196 votes.
In the 2011 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s Thanga Tamil Selvan secured victory with 91,721 votes, defeating DMK’s L. Mookiah.
Historically, since the 1977 elections, the AIADMK has dominated the constituency with eight victories, while the DMK has won three times. The 234-seat Assembly election in Tamil Nadu will see the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), led by Chief Minister M K Stalin, take on the opposition All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and a resurgent BJP-led alliance.
The campaign is centred around issues such as welfare schemes, law and order, and the broader debate between Dravidian political identity and national integration narratives. While the DMK government is highlighting its record on industrial growth and social justice, the opposition has targeted it over allegations of corruption and concerns about power shortages.
