NEW DELHI: Dr. Rajdeep Roy of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the Silchar constituency with 1,10,758 votes, defeating Congress candidate Abhijit Paul by a margin of 53,997 votes. Paul secured 56,761 votes. SUCI(C)'s Bhabotosh Chakraborty finished third with 707 votes.Eight candidates contested from Silchar in Assam's 2026 Assembly Election, along with NOTA.Silchar assembly constituency is one of the 126 seats in the Assam Legislative Assembly. Located in Cachar district, it is a general category seat and forms part of the Silchar Lok Sabha segment. The constituency is largely urban, with around 85 per cent of its population residing in densely populated town areas, while the rest live in semi-urban and peri-urban localities.

In the 2021 assembly elections, BJP candidate Dipayan Chakraborty won the seat by defeating Congress nominee Tamal Kanti Banik with a margin of 37,578 votes.In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Silchar parliamentary seat was won by BJP's Parimal Suklabaidya, who defeated Congress candidate Surya Kanta Sarkar by a margin of 2,64,311 votes.According to Election Commission data, the Silchar constituency had a total of 2,34,821 voters in the 2021 Assembly elections. This included 1,15,715 male voters, 1,19,098 female voters, and eight third-gender voters.
