In Kerela’s Konni, CPI(M)’s K U Jenish Kumar received 60,380 votes, defeating INC’s Satheesh Kochuparambil by 1,838 votes. INC’s Satheesh Kochuparambil received 58,542 votes.
The constituency is a general seat covering Konni town and rural panchayats, including areas like Vallamkulam in the forested Western Ghats region. The electorate is largely shaped by a diverse Hindu-Christian population and plantation-based livelihoods.
In the 2026 assembly elections, the UDF has fielded Abin Varkey, the LDF has nominated Veena George and the BJP has put forward
Kummanam Rajasekharan.
In the 2021 assembly elections, CPI(M) candidate KU Jenish Kumar won the seat with 62,318 votes, accounting for 41.62 per cent of the vote share.
He defeated Congress candidate Robin Peter, who secured 53,810 votes (35.94 per cent), with a margin of 8,508 votes. The constituency recorded a voter turnout of 71.42 per cent.
Konni has remained an LDF stronghold in recent elections, with local issues strongly influencing voter sentiment. The constituency faces recurring challenges such as flooding of the Pamba River, which impacts rubber estates, cardamom plantations, and hill paddy cultivation.
