Trichy’s 100 MLD STP project to be delayed by two months
Trichy: Trichy mayor Mu Anbalagan on Wednesday inspected the ongoing construction work for the centralised 100 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant (STP) at Panjapur. Though the STP was slated to be commissioned by June, officials informed the mayor that the project may become operational only by August. The delay in commissioning the plant is likely to delay the commissioning of phases II and III of the underground drainage (UGD) project."About 70% of the machinery work is over, and 80% of the civil work is completed at the new STP site. Heavy rains and gusty winds in recent weeks have disturbed the project's progress. The contractor has agreed to expedite and complete the pending works in two months," the mayor said. The 100 MLD STP is being constructed on about 10 acres of land, at 233.8 crore, to handle sewage generated by around 50 out of 65 wards. It will operate under sequencing bioreactor (SBR) technology, a seepage-free infrastructure that requires only a limited space compared to conventional technologies. Trichy corporation will discharge a portion of the treated water to the Koraiyar river by conforming to the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board standards.
