Trichy: The mortal remains of two of the victims of Jabalpur boat tragedy were brought to Trichy late on Saturday night by a special flight.
The body of K Karkuzhali, 36, was placed at her residence in Navalpattu for people to pay their respects before being cremated at Anna Nagar crematorium. The body of Soubhagya, 42, was taken by ambulance to Dharapuram in Tirupur district for her final rites. One of the survivors, Puvitharan, 10, also arrived on the same flight. Bodies of the remaining victims were subsequently recovered and identified. The other bodies are expected to come late on Sunday night, sources said.
Among the dead were R Kamaraj, 38, a resident of Anna Nagar near Thiruverumbur, who had been working at the ordnance factory in Jabalpur after completing his apprenticeship at Trichy ordnance factory. Others who lost their lives included his wife Karkuzhali, their son Tamilventhan, 4, and relatives P Soubhagya from Dharapuram in Tirupur district along with her son Mayuran, 8.
The family had travelled to Jabalpur on April 20 for summer vacation. On April 30, they visited Bargi dam on the Narmada river and boarded a double-decker boat, which unexpectedly capsized during the ride. Kamaraj, Karkuzhali, Tamilventhan, Soubhagya, and Mayuran drowned in the mishap. Two children, Puvitharan and Iniya, 12, who were wearing life jackets, were rescued safely.
