Kolkata: The centralised admission portal (CAP) will open on Monday for admission to undergraduate courses at 460 colleges and 17 universities in Bengal and applications will be accepted till June 1. The entire admission process will be held online, like previous years.
A candidate can apply for up to 25 programmes or courses in one or multiple institutes. UG classes would start from July 6, said the higher education department notification, issued on Thursday, hours after HS results were published. CBSE class 12 and ISC results were declared earlier. The notification stated that the portal would be visible to students from Friday and go live on Monday.
The first merit list will be published on June 9 and the first round of admission will be held between June 9 and June 15. No application fee will be required and students from any part of the country can apply.
A higher education department official said, "An admission meeting was held with university registrars on Thursday. The institutes were told to strictly follow the academic calendar, including admissions, to retain bright students."
Under CAP, 7,000 courses and over 9 lakh seats are on offer. Minority and autonomous institutes, and unitary universities, such as Presidency and Jadavpur, BEd courses and fine arts and performing arts at RBU are excluded. While St Xavier's College will accept applications till June 3, Scottish Church and Loreto opened theirs on Thursday. RKM Vidyamandira applications will be on till June 20. Behala College opened portal in April-end.
