Two held for attempted murder
Kochi: Ernakulam rural police arrested a 37-year-old man and his accomplice in a case involving the attempted murder of two individuals.Aluva police arrested Shyamal Roy, 37, of West Bengal, and his accomplice Sabir Hussain, 34. Roy is a history-sheeter with multiple theft cases against him. They were arrested for attempting to stab and kill two people near a bar in Aluva. Two persons identified as Abbas, of Idukki, and Shaktivel, of Tamil Nadu, were injured in the incident, which occurred on Tuesday night. The accused attacked them with a knife for questioning their involvement in a dispute with another person. Following the incident, rural district police chief, K S Sudarshan, formed a special investigation team to capture the accused who fled the scene. Hussain was apprehended in the Aluva area, while Roy was arrested near Perumbavoor. Police said Roy has been implicated in more than 20 theft cases across the state since 2014 and served multiple jail sentences. He is known for not staying in one place for long. Weapons and tools used for breaking into houses were found in his possession. The arrest was made under the leadership of Aluva DSP N Babukuttan, along with Aluva East inspector Gopakumar, SIs Josy M Johnson and V Anoop, ASIs Varghese and Manaf, and CPOs Mahinsha Abubakar, Muhammad Ameer, Benny Isaac, Afsal and Robin. The accused were presented in court and remanded. SHO stated that further investigation will be conducted with the accused in custody. Drugs found in abandoned shoes: RPF officials seized ganja stashed in abandoned shoes at Ernakulam South railway station on Saturday. According to RPF sources, the drugs were recovered in a midnight lightning inspection. During the search, four pairs of shoes were found abandoned under the overpass at the northern end of Platform 6. On detailed inspection, the officials discovered 3kg of ganja cleverly concealed inside the socks within the shoes. Additionally, a flask filled with ganja was also found. Ernakulam railway police registered a case, and a more detailed investigation was initiated. The checks were held under the supervision of Ernakulam South RPF inspector Benoy Antony, along with the special investigation team under the supervision of Railway DSP George Joseph.
