KOCHI: An elderly man died after being attacked by a buffalo in Kerala’s Kaippadamughal area, police said on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Aboobacker N A (74), a resident of Vadacode in Kaippadamughal, Thrikkakara North. According to police, the incident took place around 7.45 pm on Saturday when a buffalo that had been grazing allegedly turned aggressive and began damaging nearby plants and trees, according to news agency PTI. Officials at the Kalamassery police station said Aboobacker tried to control the animal, following which the buffalo attacked him and inflicted serious injuries. Hearing the commotion, neighbours and the buffalo’s owner rushed to the spot and shifted him to a hospital in Kochi for treatment. Police said the buffalo was later brought under control and moved away from the area. However, Aboobacker later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital. A case of unnatural death has been registered and further investigation is underway, police added. The body will be handed over to the family after the postmortem examination.
