Nearly 30% students in city likely to seek revaluation
Kochi: Following the announcement of CBSE Class XII examination results, several students from schools across Kochi have decided to apply for re-evaluation, with science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics emerging as the most common papers for reassessment.According to school authorities and parents, many students expected higher scores and are seeking revaluation in the hope of improving their marks for higher education admissions and competitive examinations. The on-screen marking (OSM) evaluation system introduced by CBSE this year is being cited by parents and school representatives as one of the reasons for the noticeable reduction in marks.Binu Antony, parent of a Class XII student from a prominent school in the city, said his son was disappointed with his marks in Physics and Mathematics. "My son expected more than 90% overall but did not get the scores he anticipated. He has decided to apply for revaluation. Several other parents from the school have also communicated that their children will opt for revaluation," Antony said.According to Deepa Chandran, an office-bearer of Kochi Metro Sahodaya, which comprises around 45 schools in Ernakulam, nearly 30% of students in the city are likely to apply for revaluation. "The reduction in marks this year is being widely discussed among parents, teachers and school managements. Lower scores could affect students during college admissions, especially in merit-based courses," Chandran said.Principals across schools have been receiving calls from concerned parents regarding the results and Kochi Metro Sahodaya is expected to hold discussions on the issue in the coming days, she added.Priya C Pillai, principal of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Tripunithura, said several parents had informed class teachers of the school about their intention to apply for revaluation. Parents from some city schools reported receiving communication from school authorities encouraging eligible students to make use of the revaluation process.Kochi falls under CBSE's Trivandrum region, which emerged as the top-performing region in the country in Class XII examinations with an overall pass percentage of 95.62%.
