FARIDABAD: A 31-year-old woman was assaulted and slashed on her face with a blade allegedly by her former live-in partner during a heated altercation in Sarai area on Thursday night.The accused, Kanhaiya (34), fled the spot after the attack, taking away the woman's scooter and leaving her severely injured.

The woman and the accused were in a live-in relationship for the past four to five years after she divorced her husband. The relationship, however, turned sour over time, leading the woman to sever ties and move out. The two were living separately for the past few months. The woman kept changing houses in search for work and was currently residing in the Sarai area while the man lived in the NIT area.She claimed that the man was previously jailed in connection with a theft case and tried to get in touch with her after he was released. The man had allegedly started pressuring her to resume the relationship and marry him. The woman refused which became a major source of friction between the two. "They were frequently arguing over the issue. The woman was clear that she did not want to continue the relationship," a police officer said.
On Thursday night, the two reportedly met in the Sarai area, where an argument broke out. During the altercation, the woman alleged that Kanhaiya assaulted her and in a fit of rage, used a blade to slash her face, leaving her with injuries.A case has been registered under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 303 (theft), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 79 (insulting the modesty of a woman) at Sarai Khwaja police station.Police are verifying the criminal antecedents of the accused."We are checking his criminal history and the exact details of why and when he was arrested. A team is working to nab him. He was not found at his rented accomodation in NIT," police said. The woman was provided medical assistance and her condition is stated to be stable. Further investigation is underway.
