Panaji: Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has issued a notice to the Socorro panchayat secretary after the civic body served an evacuation notice to the family of a man accused of raping a six-year-old girl.
Following the accused’s arrest by Porvorim police, neighbours gathered outside his house on Tuesday, demanding that authorities evacuate his family.

Taking suo motu cognisance of the matter, the commission directed the panchayat secretary to submit a report by Jan 6, 2026, as stated by GHRC chairman Desmond D’Costa and member Pramod Kamat.
Porvorim police registered an FIR based on a complaint filed by the girl’s mother. The accused, hired by the family to transport the minor to and from school, allegedly touched her private parts at various places in Porvorim prior to Nov 2025. He later sexually abused, assaulted, and raped her, while also threatening her to remain silent, said Porvorim PI Rahul Parab.
The girl underwent a medical examination at Goa Medical College, Bambolim, where evidence of sexual assault was found. Police swiftly traced and arrested the accused. He was produced before the judicial magistrate first class in Mapusa and remanded in four days police custody.
