NFL Trade Rumors: Arizona Cardinals linked to Aaron Rodgers as Pittsburgh Steelers near decision deadline

NFL Trade Rumors: Arizona Cardinals linked to Aaron Rodgers as Pittsburgh Steelers near decision deadline
Pittsburgh Steelers are growing frustrated as Aaron Rodgers delays his decision about the 2026 season, with key deadlines already missed. While the team remains hopeful, patience is wearing thin ahead of OTAs. Meanwhile, the Arizona Cardinals have emerged as a surprise potential landing spot, fueled by Rodgers’ past connection with their coaching staff, adding fresh uncertainty to the situation.
The waiting game around Aaron Rodgers is starting to test the limits inside the Pittsburgh Steelers building. What once felt like a calculated gamble is now edging toward uncertainty. The team had hoped for clarity weeks ago, but the silence continues. Fans are divided. Some still believe in the upside, while others question whether the delay is worth the risk.Behind closed doors, the tone appears to be shifting. Optimism has not disappeared, but it no longer feels as steady as before. With key offseason checkpoints already missed, the focus has moved to the next crucial date. Time is passing, and the franchise knows it cannot afford to drift without a clear plan at quarterback.

Steelers grow restless as Aaron Rodgers delay stretches on

The Steelers have tried to stay patient, but even that patience has limits. As Pittsburgh Post-Gazette insider Gerry Dulac noted, “The Steelers have displayed saint-like patience waiting for Aaron Rodgers to say he is coming back for the 2026 season, even though a large portion of their fan base doesn’t agree with their approach. After watching two of their “expected’ deadlines come and go — and insisting this isn’t the same situation as last year — the Steelers might not be so understanding if this drags on for two more weeks.”
That frustration is tied to a familiar pattern. Rodgers took a similar path last year, delaying his decision deep into the offseason. This time, though, expectations were different. General manager Omar Khan had hinted at a quicker resolution. Even team owner Art Rooney II expressed confidence, saying, “I think we’ll have an answer soon, let’s put it that way.”Now, Organized Team Activities loom as the next line in the sand. If no answer comes by then, the situation could shift from patience to pressure.

Arizona Cardinals emerge as surprise option for Aaron Rodgers

While Pittsburgh waits, outside speculation continues to grow. According to CBS Sports analyst John Breech, the Arizona Cardinals could quietly enter the picture. “At this point, their QB situation is still up in the air. Going into April, Jacoby Brissett appeared to have the inside track, but he’s skipping the team’s voluntary workouts because he wants to be paid like a starter. Instead of giving Brissett more money, the Cardinals could simply call Rodgers and offer that money to him,” Breech wrote. There is also a familiar connection waiting in Arizona. “Now, here’s where things get even more interesting. The Cardinals just hired a new offensive coordinator this year in Nathaniel Hackett, who just happens to be best friends with Rodgers,” Breech wrote. “This team had the talent to compete; they just couldn’t get over the hump last year. If the Cardinals were to give Rodgers a call, you’d have to think that he would listen.”Hackett and Rodgers have shared success before, dating back to their time with the Green Bay Packers and later the New York Jets. That history keeps the door open, even if the idea remains speculative for now.For the Steelers, the equation is simple. Wait longer and risk losing control, or push for answers and reshape the plan. Either way, the clock is ticking.
