Subhash Patra of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the Raina (SC) Assembly Constituency No. 262, defeating Mandira Dalui of the All India Trinamool Congress.
Raina (SC), Assembly Constituency No. 262, is located in Purba Bardhaman district of South Bengal, in the fertile alluvial region south of Bardhaman town, close to the Damodar floodplain. In the 2026 contest, the other candidates included Pampa Malik of the Indian National Congress and Somnath Maji of the CPI(M).
Covering Raina I and II community development blocks, the constituency is a classic rural SC-reserved agrarian seat with paddy, mustard, and vegetable cultivation. With 248,000+ electors, the predominantly SC population (Bagdi, Bauri communities) is engaged in agricultural labour and small-scale cultivation.
Voter priorities centre on agricultural support, irrigation, MGNREGA, housing (PMAY), food security, and rural road and healthcare access. The Damodar river's seasonal flooding is a recurring infrastructure concern that shapes voter expectations of the state government. A historically Left-leaning SC reserved seat, now solidly in TMC's column against BJP. Very high turnout (91.7per cent) under Bardhaman-Purba Lok Sabha.
In 2021, TMC's Shampa Dhara won by 18,205 votes (~8.0per cent of 227,603 total votes), a comfortable margin reflecting TMC's strong rural SC outreach.
A safely marginal TMC seat; the consistent margin and high-turnout SC mobilization demonstrate TMC's organizational depth in rural Bardhaman. One of TMC's reliable rural SC-bloc seats that provides cushion in the district's overall tally.
