Sowmiya Anbumani of PMK secured a decisive victory, defeating TVK candidate M Sivan by a margin of 20,896 votes. Anbumani secured 93,713 votes. Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) candidate V Elangovan finished third with 56,905 votes.
The Dharmapuri constituency witnessed an electrified contest in the 2026 Assembly elections, with the DMK-led alliance fielding Dr V Elangovan (DMDK). This strategic move saw the veteran challenging the PMK’s Sowmiya Anbumani, who fought to retain the party’s grip on the segment. The entry of M Sivan representing the TVK and Santhalakshmi of the NTK disrupted traditional calculations, focusing on youth unemployment and the long-pending Dharmapuri-Morappur railway link.
The 2021 election saw S P Venkateshwaran (PMK) win with 1,05,630 votes (48.99% vote share), defeating P Subramani (DMK) by 26,860 votes. In 2016, P Subramani (DMK) secured victory with 71,056 votes, winning a tight race against the AIADMK and PMK by a margin of 9,676 votes.
Voter turnout this year reached 89.44%, a record high for the constituency compared to the 79.99% recorded in 2021.
Dharmapuri (assembly constituency no. 59) is the district’s administrative heart and a central hub for agricultural trade in the northern "Vanniyar belt."
