Sankar Chatterjee of the Bharatiya Janata Party has won the Barasat constituency with 1,22,171 votes. He defeated Sabyasachi Dutta of the All India Trinamool Congress, who secured 87,613 votes, by a margin of 34,558 votes.Barasat is a general category constituency in North 24 Parganas, the namesake of the Barasat Lok Sabha seat. It is a densely populated urban constituency centred on Barasat town, the district headquarters of North 24 Parganas. In 2026, TMC has fielded actor-politician Sabyasachi Dutta against BJP's Sankar Chatterjee.In 2021, TMC's Chiranjeet Chakraborty won with 1,04,431 votes, defeating BJP's Sankar Chatterjee by 23,783 votes. In 2016, TMC had also retained the seat. Sankar Chatterjee's second consecutive BJP candidacy from Barasat means voters will see a familiar face on the saffron side, while Sabyasachi Dutta — a celebrity TV actor — brings name recognition to the TMC ticket.
