Pudukkottai Assembly constituency is the headquarters of the district. The seat has a diverse political history, with representation from the DMK, AIADMK, and the CPI. In the 2021 Assembly elections, DMK’s V. Muthuraja won the seat with 85,802 votes, defeating AIADMK’s V. R. Karthik Thondaiman, who secured 72,801 votes. The margin of victory was 13,001 votes. In the 2016 Assembly elections, DMK’s Periyannan Arassu won with 66,739 votes, defeating AIADMK’s V. R. Karthik Thondaiman, who received 64,655 votes. The margin of victory was a narrow 2,084 votes. In the 2011 Assembly elections, CPI’s S. P. Muthukumaran won the seat with 65,235 votes, defeating DMK’s N. Chelladurai, who secured 62,134 votes. The margin of victory stood at 3,101 votes.
