Trichy: People's Development Initiatives (PDI), an organisation working for the advancement of marginalised women, conducted a three-month-long tailoring training programme for 52 underprivileged women in low-income group areas of Trichy city. Successful trainees were provided with certificates by the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO) on Wednesday.
"Around 75% of the women we trained were from dalit communities, mostly employed in the sanitation sector. Such vocational training will provide them opportunities to work or launch business in other sectors," I Ambalavanan, director of PDI, said.
District manager of TAHDCO, Trichy, L Anit Vimalin, provided an overview of various govt welfare and financial assistance schemes to foster entrepreneurship among marginalised communities, especially women. Funding schemes and opportunities available in the CM-ARISE and PM-AJAY schemes, such as credit-linked subsidies and self-employment support available through the cleanliness workers welfare board, were explained.
The women were told to become entrepreneurs by utilising schemes and achieve economic independence.
