Corp seals 2 unlicensed eateries at Nemom
T'puram: Two roadside eateries operating at Vellayani Junction in Nemom were sealed by city corporation following complaints from locals that the establishments had encroached on pedestrian pathway and were conducting business illegally. The action was taken against ‘Khalifa Cafe' and ‘Ummachi's Thattukada' during an inspection led by senior public health inspector Shaji K Nair and a team of corporation officials. During the inspection, officials found that both establishments had been functioning without valid licences from the civic body. Residents in the area reportedly raised repeated complaints alleging that the eateries were obstructing the footpath by extending their operations onto public space, causing inconvenience to pedestrians and motorists alike. Following the complaints, the corporation earlier issued notices directing the owners to remove the encroachments and regularize their operations. However, owner of Ummachi's Thattukada, identified as Shiyas, challenged the corporation's action by filing an appeal before the council. The appeal was later rejected based on an inquiry report submitted by officials, paving the way for further enforcement action.
On Thursday, corporation employees arrived at the site and sealed both eateries using iron sheets to prevent further operations. Officials said strict action would continue against unauthorized commercial establishments operating on public land and violating civic regulations. The corporation is also expected to intensify inspections in other parts of the city following similar complaints regarding encroachments and unlicensed businesses.
