Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Conducts Successful Statewide Raid Against Electricity Theft

Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (JUVNL) conducted a state-wide raid to combat electricity theft, deploying 119 teams and inspecting 7,822 premises. The operation uncovered 1,191 cases of electricity theft, leading to FIRs being filed under the Indian Electricity Act, 2003. JUVNL assessed the total amount involved in these thefts at Rs 185.59 lakh and urged citizens to report such incidents.

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (JUVNL) has cracked down on electricity theft by conducting a two-day state-wide raid that ended on Wednesday. The operation was carried out under the supervision of the anti-power theft (APT) wing of the headquarters. A total of 119 teams were deployed to ensure effective monitoring across the state.During the campaign, inspections were carried out at 7,822 premises, out of which electricity theft was detected in 1,191 cases. FIRs were lodged against the offenders at respective police stations under relevant provisions of the Indian Electricity Act, 2003. The total amount involved in these cases was assessed at Rs 185.59 lakh, JUVNL said in a statement on Thursday.According to zone-wise details, Ranchi circle recorded 1,097 raids with 127 FIRs and an assessment of Rs 22.80 lakh. Jamshedpur circle reported 102 FIRs from 764 raids, involving Rs 21.83 lakh, while Hazaribag accounted for 108 FIRs with dues of Rs 20.96 lakh. Deoghar also reported recoveries amounting to Rs 20.60 lakh from 75 FIRs. Other circles, including Daltonganj, Giridih, Sahibganj, and Chas, also reported cases of theft, each contributing to the overall assessment amount.
JUVNL has appealed citizens to play an active role in curbing electricity theft. Consumers have been urged to share information about theft incidents, along with complete addresses, by sending messages or WhatsApp alerts to the general manager (APT) on the mobile number 94311-35515. The corporation has assured that the identity of informants will remain confidential.
